Argentina's labor markets in an era of adjustment
The current economic crisis in Argentina is only partly the result of inappropriate domestic policies to cope with the recent external shocks. Years of inappropriate policies have damaged Argentina's economy. Even if no external shocks had occurred, the country would still have to change the structure of production. Argentina has had trouble sustaining a program of structural adjustment. Its experiences provide policymakers with some lessons in designing a sustainable program to achieve price stability and change the incentive system : a) macroeconomic and trade policies must be consistent; b) labor relations and labor market institutions must be changed including the decentralization of wage bargaining and the elimination of traditional wage policies and general government intervention; c) rigidities and restrictions on labor mobility must be eliminated, leading to less pervasive government intervention in the form of restrictive regulations and spending patterns; and d) public spending must be profoundly changed to reduce social costs during the transition period.Economic Stabilization,Banks&Banking Reform,Municipal Financial Management,Environmental Economics&Policies,Economic Theory&Research
Evolution of networks
We review the recent fast progress in statistical physics of evolving
networks. Interest has focused mainly on the structural properties of random
complex networks in communications, biology, social sciences and economics. A
number of giant artificial networks of such a kind came into existence
recently. This opens a wide field for the study of their topology, evolution,
and complex processes occurring in them. Such networks possess a rich set of
scaling properties. A number of them are scale-free and show striking
resilience against random breakdowns. In spite of large sizes of these
networks, the distances between most their vertices are short -- a feature
known as the ``small-world'' effect. We discuss how growing networks
self-organize into scale-free structures and the role of the mechanism of
preferential linking. We consider the topological and structural properties of
evolving networks, and percolation in these networks. We present a number of
models demonstrating the main features of evolving networks and discuss current
approaches for their simulation and analytical study. Applications of the
general results to particular networks in Nature are discussed. We demonstrate
the generic connections of the network growth processes with the general
problems of non-equilibrium physics, econophysics, evolutionary biology, etc.Comment: 67 pages, updated, revised, and extended version of review, submitted

Quasi-pinning and entanglement in the lithium isoelectronic series
The Pauli exclusion principle gives an upper bound of 1 on the natural
occupation numbers. Recently there has been an intriguing amount of theoretical
evidence that there is a plethora of additional generalized Pauli restrictions
or (in)equalities, of kinematic nature, satisfied by these numbers. Here for
the first time a numerical analysis of the nature of such constraints is
effected in real atoms. The inequalities are nearly saturated, or quasi-pinned.
For rank-six and rank-seven approximations for lithium, the deviation from
saturation is smaller than the lowest occupancy number. For a rank-eight
approximation we find well-defined families of saturation conditions.Comment: 22 pages, 6 figures, minor changes, references adde
The American, German and Japanese Stock markets are fundamental in the modern capital market given the fact that these economies are in the top five of the largest economies of the world and that they possess a vigorous financial sector. The estimation of univariate marginal distributions through an ARMA-GARCH model and the application of t-student copulas allows to conclude that there is a strong bond between the representative indices of those markets. This result is completely coherent with the degree at which the modern capital markets is globalized and integrated as a single entity.Magister en Matemáticas AplicadasMaestrí
Orbital-Free Quasi-Density Functional Theory
Wigner functions are broadly used to probe non-classical effects in the
macroscopic world. Here we develop an orbital-free functional framework to
compute the 1-body Wigner quasi-probability for both fermionic and bosonic
systems. Since the key variable is a quasi-density, this theory is particularly
well suited to circumvent the problem of finding the Pauli potential or
approximating the kinetic energy in orbital-free density functional theory. As
proof of principle, we find that the universal functional for the building
block of optical lattices results from a translation, a contraction, and a
rotation of the corresponding functional of the 1-body reduced density matrix,
indicating a strong connection between these functional theories. Furthermore,
we relate the concepts of Wigner negativity and -representability, and find
a manifold of ground states with negative Wigner functions.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure
The Black Litterman Model: A Non-Normal Approach.
The Black Litterman Model (BLM) is widely used tool for the estimation of the expected excess return of a given portfolio. It belongs to the field of Bayesian Statistics, and, assumptions on the prior and likelihood distributions are made. This work relaxes normality assumption on both distributions, and explores two scenarios, using Gamma and Skew Normal distributions. The posterior distribution is determined up to a constant and then data is sampled through Metropolis Hastings algorithms. A specific exercise is executed and its results are shown the end of the document.Magister en Matemáticas AplicadasMaestrí
